Outside Plant Documentation Technician – Temporary

The Outside Plant (OSP) Documentation Technician is responsible for collecting, documenting, and verifying field information related to Zito Media’s existing fiber and HFC infrastructure. This role supports future Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) deployments by accurately identifying and recording the locations of fiber slack loops, HFC nodes, and other outside plant assets. The technician will spend the majority of their time working in the field, traveling to service areas throughout the United States, walking fiber routes, and utilizing GPS-based mobile applications to capture infrastructure locations. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a willingness to travel extensively.

Essential Functions

• Ride out existing Zito Media fiber routes to identify and document outside plant assets.
• Locate and record the positions of fiber slack loops, HFC nodes, and other network infrastructure using company-approved mobile mapping application.
• Place accurate GPS pins and collect associated field data for future engineering and FTTH planning.
• Walk fiber routes that extend beyond roadways into utility easements, rights-of-way, wooded areas, and other off-road locations as required.
• Verify field conditions and identify discrepancies between existing infrastructure and available documentation.
• Work closely with Project Leadership to ensure documentation accuracy.
• Safely operate a company vehicle while traveling to field locations.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures while working in the field.
• Communicate project progress, challenges, and documentation updates to supervisor.
• Travel extensively throughout Zito Media service areas, including overnight and multi-week travel assignments as business needs dictate.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of outside plant documentation and network planning.

Required Skills

• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a vehicle safely.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and terrain.
• Ability to walk long distances over uneven ground, utility easements, wooded areas, and undeveloped property.
• Experience using smartphones, tablets, GPS applications, and mobile mapping software.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately collect and record field information.
• Basic understanding of outside plant telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and HFC networks, is preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret basic maps, aerial imagery, and route documentation.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to following all safety guidelines and company policies.
